Thanks for the push, Osama.

My school's motto was 'Facta non verba' which translates roughly to 'Actions, not Words'. The translation used to be printed in a small font on the school stationary till I was in grade 6th.
When I was in class 10th, our school principal offered a small cash prize to any student who would come out and tell everyone what it meant. Nobody did. I should have, but I was standing and waiting to see who else besides me knew the meaning.

I am as guilty of wishing and hoping as any other human, but I'm trying to cure myself. I just hope I don't turn into a Vulcan.

Hi Sohaib,

Imagination is good and kids have buckets of it. I'm dodging distractions - cell and tweets - as best I can :-). Maybe tape some of your son's stories? They could be a fun gift for his children some day.

Thanks you all for taking out the time to comment.

@anika, aqeel and cache (I bet your name is Kashif) thanks for dropping by.

@shahzad I hope you're having fun making games, and snowmen :D

@M our first interaction was a couple of years ago I think, when we discovered over lahore.metblogs.com that the official Lahore website was a complete ripoff of some US state website.

@Casey That is interesting, I used the "find friends who use twitter" feature after a few months and saw you there, with zero tweets. Hope that will change. I usually ask my son to tell me stories when he goes to sleep, and he constantly surprises me with his imagination - and yea I know what you mean about the ramblings and the interesting questions that usually follow a story.

Hi Sohaib,

Joined tweet today and followed the link from you here. Great writing. Working on any children's stories? I tell silly bed time tales to my kids on demand and wish I had a tape recorder to catch the half asleep ramblings.

Best,

I don't - at least try to - use bloglines or other readers, lest I get in a habit of blogsurfing.
I check your blog often enough to catch your latest post (this means that you write a new post after quite some time).
We haven't met f2f, though I believe we have planned to do it once or twice.
And about how I found-out about you...Come to think of it, how the heck DID we really-virtually meet? Hey, why do I know you? Are you real? Who are *you*?
/me blinks

John, glad that you managed to make it work. I *think* the mfc42.cab file I mentioned should contain the vc runtime dlls - not sure though. You are another example of a non-geek switching to Linux and surviving, which is always a good thing :-)

I did some more poking around, and I found the solution! :D

Its a simple missing library. At first, I thought I had all the libraries, but then when I read this short article, I realized that since MSReader was installed using ies4linux that it was using the dll libraries under a separate directory (instead of the usual directory under Wine.

Go to this link for the details.

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-users/2008-September/158629.html

In a nut shell, you need to install msvcirt.dll to the "/.ies4linux/ie6/drive_c/windows/system" folder (system 32 should already have it)

if you are not able to copy from system 32 you can find the file for free DL at the following link

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcirt

Thanks for your help and your patience :D

ok, the double quotes makes it work, but msreader wont start because its unable to display the eula for some reason. there are no errors displayed within the console.

I used the following string

gksu wine "/home/john/.ies4linux/ie6/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft Reader/msreader.exe"
